We bought a house! Finally! After what felt like a million years of searching we found one we liked and our offer was accepted. A month and half of completely agonizing and mentally draining paperwork later, we had the keys. We’ve been here about a month now and we’re still slowly getting settled in, but we couldn’t be happier. The house is perfect for us. Photos after the break!
These pictures are all from the day we got the inspection done, hence those men in the yard. They were scaring the crap out of us telling us everything that’s wrong with the house. I’m pretty sure this is normal. Unless your house is brand spankin’ new, they’re going to find problems with it. Luckily there was nothing major enough wrong with the house to deter us from buying it. Considering its age (it was built in 1949) it’s in really good shape.
The kitchen and mudroom are my two least favorite spaces currently, just because they’re so dated and not functional. The mudroom smells funny and has a ridiculous mural on the wall. We plan on ripping up the gross carpet and painting in there. Hopefully soon. The kitchen is something that we will have to hold off on, since it’s a far more expensive project. We’ve already gotten a new fridge and stove and moved the fridge so the layout is slightly better at least.
These pictures are from before we moved in, and the house was empty so all the furniture is staged. It’s actually kind of nice to see how they had it set up because I am having a hell of a time fitting our furniture into this house. It suddenly all seems huge! And making decisions on furniture is hard you guys.
We’ve already painted both the living room and dining room white and had the floors refinished a darker color, as you’ll see.
The bathroom is super small but kind of charming, I guess. I don’t hate it so that’s all that matters. There’s also another bedroom on the first floor which I apparently didn’t photograph. It’s mint green and it’s currently being used as an office/N’s dressing room/dumping ground.
Upstairs is just one big space with two good sized closets and some crappy homemade built ins. It’s a great space to have, and some day when we win the Mega Millions we’ll do something awesome with it (hello, master suite!), but for now it’s storage and I have set up one half of it as my workout area which is AWESOME.
The stairs come out of the kitchen, which is wacky tobacky, but it’s starting to grow on me. It is, however, super chilly chilly up there because there’s not enough heat vents for the size of the room and it’s not super well insulated. Someday that will be addressed. It’s a lot of work, but I have to remember it’s not a race and we have many years here to get it all done.
These are just a couple pictures from when we first moved in. The floors in all their beautiful glory. Seriously SO happy with how they came out. We had them stand darker and I’m so glad. I love the way they look with the white walls.
See how enormous our living room furniture looks!? I just feel so attached to all of it I can’t manage to make a decision about getting anything new. We got a new coffee table except now I don’t even think we like it. And it was a goddamn expensive and heavy coffee table. It scratched my floor too, so I’m pretty peeved at this table.
I’ll continue sharing as we complete more projects! We have done more decorating and you know, are actually moved in now, so it’s looking much more homey. I’m so excited to see our little house turn more and more into a home!
